About Us

 

Leeds University Opera Society is a society which aims to bring Opera to everyone. From those who know nothing about opera, to those who live their life according to the works of Verdi, anyone is welcome in OperaSoc. We put on two shows every year and our aim is to have loads of fun doing it. Many of our members had never been involved in opera, or had any kind of musical training before joining the society. We welcome anyone and everyone as long as you're enthusiastic and dedicated. We don't take ourselves very seriously, as you'll know if you've seen any of our shows.
 
With frequent visits to see operas, workshops with professional opera singers and two unauditioned shows a year there is plenty to get involved with. The shows have all recieved positive reviews with the society winning "Best New Society" at the Rileys in 2007 and winning the prestigious "Best Show" with Mozart's The Magic Flute in 2009. Our 2010 performance of Gilbert and Sullivan's "Pirates of Penzance" received a 5 star review in the Leeds Student newspaper.
 
Come and talk to us at the freshers' fair or come along to any of our rehearsals to see if you like us. We are usually to be found in the Raven theatre on a Wednesday evening. For information about upcoming shows, trips or auditions for lead roles, check our facebook page.

Help with clubs and societies.

If you need help regarding your club and society, the Development Coordinators, who work in the Union's ARC (the Activities and Resource Centre), provide support, advice and help with all student activities.
